What do i need to know to start motocross?
Im 19 years old, female and i want to start motocross. Im takin this ambition seriously and have always wanted to. Im not expecting it to be easy but im very determined. So what im needing to know is anything as in good bikes, who to talk to, where to go, how to look/shop, maybe even make a motocross friend??? Just lookin for anything in to that world.
O, I also live in Indiana.
Most tracks have a girls and women’s class now which is awesome. As far as a bike goes you really should go the 4 stroke route. If you are under 5’5″ or so the Honda CRF150R Expert is your only choice, but it’s a very good one. If you are taller than that you really need to move up to a 250F. Any of them will be fine, Honda CRF250R, YamahYZ250F, Suzuki RM-Z 250, Kawasaki KX250F. These bikes are very tall and if you’re between like 5’5″ and 5’8″ or so, it will take some getting used to. I would suggest going to a Honda dealer since they are the only company making a 150 4 stroke race bike, and sit on the CRF250R and the CRF150R to see which fits best. But remember that a little too tall is better than too short of a bike in motocross. Also know that the CRF150R comes in 2 sizes, standard and expert so try both along with the 250. Once you have your bike and gear you’ll need to find a track or two that holds open practices. This is just a day that the track is open but no races are being run. I would highly suggest spending at least 6 months riding open practice sessions before attempting to race. You will make tons of friends at the track. That is one of my favorite things about motocross, it is one big family. Your local motorcycle shops that sell MX bikes will know where the local tracks are.
