Rokon

Is it because the flash was well cheap or is it user error?
okay I got a flash Rokon (spelling) under 100 bucks i was excited about it and when it works it works GREAT!
the problem I’m having and i’m not sure if it’s the cheap flash or user error.
Sometimes the flash will not fire. I’m never using it in auto mode and sometimes my iso is higher then it should be. Would any of these settings make it miss fire or not fire.
sometimes I’ll take a photo the flash will not fire so i’ll take another no flash again. then i’ll take another and IF it does fire it’s all blown out it’s all white. seems to me it’s building up the flash from each of the previous ones that didn’t fire.
rather bothersome and sort of freaking me out. is it me or the flash.
please say it’s me!
Thanks I’ll have my mentor take a look at it!
Thought it was the recycle time but the flash says ready.. it’s no manual on the flash .. and it is a cheap flash but i think I’m doing something wrong.
It ain’t you, it’s the flash. Cheap Chinese junk, no matter what you actually paid for it.
This sort of flash is sold with about 12 different names, but they are all the same basic unit… and they aren’t worth crap.
If you don’t want to pay the cost of a flash made by your camera maker, there is still hope. There are three off-brand makers out there than you can pretty much depend on, and another that has good and bad stuff on the market.
Anything from Metz will be just as good as what your camera maker offers. Prices range from right at $100 (Metz 36) to just over $400 (Metz 58, just as good as the high end flashes from Canon and Nikon). Sigma has two models made for just about every brand on the market… one at $150 and one at about $225. Sunpak still has a few out there… dedicated and not dedicated.
The one you have to watch out for is Vivitar, you will find several flashes that have Vivitar name on them, but it’s the same thing as the Rokinon/Bower/whatever unit you have now. The only good Vivitar on the market is the 285HV auto thyristor model. Been around for years, you can still get it new, and it is a very good flash. $80-$90 brand new.
