Okay, so right up front I want to tell you that this tactic is not technically stealing someone’s list, but it is close enough. It has to do with leveraging the power of Twitter to build your own email list. As you know, the bigger the list, the bigger your potential to make money online.
Twitter is exploding right now and going through phenomenal growth. If you do not have an account, it is time to get one. It will take you all of 5 minutes to set up.
Now all the big-time gurus are all online, happily tweeting away on Twitter. You know them as the folks with the big opt-in lists that make money online without getting out of bed in the morning. It is time to learn how to tap into their lists in a legal and ethical way. Here is how you do it…
Search Twitter for Your Mentors and Colleagues
Twitter has a great feature that allows you to instantly find your mentors and colleagues in your niche. Enter in their names, one by one, and Follow them. Now you have instant access to their Followers. How? Easy…
Click on the “Following” Link
Just click on the “Followers” link under their profile and it lists in chronological order, the people who are following them. These are usually the most active people – i.e., people who have just come onto Twitter or have become interested in your niche topic.
If you have read a little about copywriting, you know that “recency” is critical to succeeding in business. Recency means how long ago someone might have been exposed to an advertising message or how long ago they got interested in a topic. These are fresh “leads” if you want to think of them that way, people who are extremely hungry for information on your niche.
Follow the Folks Who Seem Interesting
Go through the profiles and see who has a decent size following of their own and find the people who have shared great information through tweets in the past. Then click the button at the top to “Follow” them on Twitter.
Why do you follow them? Simple…
They Will Follow You Back
What do you do when someone follows you and you get a notice in your Twitter or email account? You probably click on their profile to see who they are and what they are all about. If they are cool, you Follow them, right?Of course you do, I do. I love to Follow new people because they share great information with me and we have some good conversations from time to time. It is like one big party.
In the process of all this conversation, you are building a big list of Followers. How do you grow your opt-in list from all this Following of Tweeters? Just give me one more minute and I will tell you how, but I have two more things you must follow in order to be successful with this Twitter traffic tactic.
Use the Tactic Daily, but Sparingly
Make it a goal to follow 30 to 50 new people a day and see where your results take you. Twitter does not like people mass following others because it is not natural to follow hundreds of people a day. Follow 30 to 50 people at first until you hit 500 people you are following and then increase the daily new followers by 10 percent of your total followers
The Magic Twitter Ratio
Try to stick between 150 percent Following to Followers ratio until you hit the big time and more people start following you than you are following. By then your list will be so huge and profitable!
How Do You Build a List From This Tactic?
You might be scratching your head thinking, “I thought this was an article about building a list, not getting Followers on Twitter?” and you are right, it is about list building. Let me explain.
What happens when you build a big Follower list, during the course of providing outstanding value and giving great information to your Followers, you tell them about a recent blog post of yours or some other cool stuff?
They retweet your tweet and now it goes out to their list of Followers. Your exposure dramatically explodes the moment you start following this process. How do they get on your opt-in list? Glad you asked…
Over the course of your daily tweets, from time to time you point people to your blog or your websites and a certain portion of people will sign up and now they are on your email list. Mission accomplished.
A Word of Caution
I urge you to use the above tip in a responsible and professional manner. Twitter is a wonderful service that provides a great way to stay in touch with your Followers and for you to learn new things from the people you are Following, so do not abuse the system. Enough said. Now you have a very simple and direct way to explode your opt-in list leveraging Twitters massive base of users.
