4 stoke is more effitiant. because it uses less fuel and burns much cleaner fuel. and produces more tourqe because of the large flywheel setup along with mechanicle valves and ingnition timing wich can be computer controled and can also change with engine rpm to maintain maximun power and effeciancy. a 2 stroke uses oil mixed with gas. so it is very dirty burning. very polluting and the insides on teh engine get gummed up after a wile. and the valves are just hole in the sides of the compution chanber that allow air/fuel in one side and exsaust out the other. it is very simple yes. very strong yes. but its simplicity is why is is less effitiant. the technology available these days allows full control over the valves and ignition and fuel system of a four storke. in turn making it more effitiant. the stroke itself (the distance the piston travels) is shorter on a 2 stroke and dose not have to torque a 4 stroke can have. nor dose it have the same power band. think about it. with a 2 stroke you are firing fuel every single time the piston goes up. a four stroke you only ignite fuel every fourth stroke. so you use less. and you don’t mix oil with the fuel like in a 2 stroke. and a 4 stroke can be used as a flex fuel engine. meaning since oil is kept in the crank case separate you can use alcohol to run it. or natural gas. or liquid methane or liquid nitrous. 4 strokes are better for many many reasons. and 2 strokes are better for only a few reason. 2 strokes are better because they are smaller. lighter and much more simplistic. 4 strokes are better for power. fuel economy. clean burning fuel and more power output. but the most efficient type of internal combustion engine in the world is a diesel engine. a good diesel will get 10 times the fuel economy of a hybrid car. and produce much much much more power. and a diesel will run on just about anything with an oil like structure. you can burn french fry oil in a diesel. you can run kerosene. lantern oil even motor oil if you can get it viscous enough. diesel engines are the way of the future. they can already out do hybrids in every way. and they are so simple its nuts. only need 4 wires to run a diesel engine. and 2 of those are only there for the starter. all you need is fuel. don’t even need spark plugs. anyways anymore questions there are videos on youtube showing animations of how each of these works.
