When did toyota start having accelerator problems?
I have a 1995 toyota corolla and I’m wondering if its at risk of having the same problems being reported to toyota.

On older cars like yours you pressed on the accelerator pedal with your foot. A steel cable attached to the pedal pulled on a throttle plate. you would feel resistance in your foot coming from spring load from the throttle plate as well as negative pressure (vacuum) created by the engine.
Without going too technical on you, the system has been changed. It is no longer MECHANICAL LINKAGE (STEEL CABLE) as that has been replaced by a computerized system to regulate how much fuel and gas come into the engine, depending on how much you push. But with the new system there would be no resistance in your pedal foot. So Toyota, in order to give you the sensation of pressing harder as you are used to on previous cars, installed a friction device to do so.
Your 95 Corolla is a legend. In my expert opinion, arguably the best built, most reliable vehicle ever built. The rust will kill it before any mechanical failures. I drove one almost 500,000 km and gave it away 5 years ago. It is still on the road today, with a friend.
